With funding from the Energy Foundation, CALSTART researched and analyzed the opportunities and challenges faced by the medium- and heavy-duty electric truck or E-Truck and Bus market. We set out to identify issues and make recommendations to facilitate the integration of electric trucks and buses into the grid and expand the market. The opportunities in this sector are great, but the issues are not yet as well-understood as they are on the light-duty side. There are distinct public utility commission policy and rate issues facing the e-truck and bus market. The success of electric vehicles in the commercial medium and heavy-duty market may require different approaches.
